The Decision Support Systems Laboratory of the School of Production Engineering and Management of the Technical University of Crete serves educational needs and focuses its research activities in the areas of Operations Research, Combinatorial Optimization, Stochastic Optimization, Communication Networks, Vehicle Routing and Network Design, Supply Chain Management Optimization, Multicriteria Analysis, Information Systems, Geographical Information Systems, Parallel and Distributed Algorithms, Global Optimization, Large Scale Optimization, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Multi-Agent Systems, Heuristics and Evolutionary Algorithms, Nature-Inspired Algorithms, E-Commerce, Behavior and Consumer Satisfaction Analysis, Game Theory.

History of the Laboratory

The Decision Support Systems Laboratory (ERGASYA) was established in February 1990 and is the first of its kind to be founded in Greece. It belongs to the School of Production Engineering and Management of the Technical University of Crete.

It specializes in decision support based on methodologies from Operations Research and Artificial Intelligence and their implementation and application with the help of algorithms (heuristics, evolutionary and nature-inspired).

Its research areas are both theoretical and practical and cover decision making, decision theory, game theory, supply chain, evolutionary algorithms, machine learning and knowledge acquisition from data.

The objectives of the Laboratory are:

  •    to meet basic educational needs in decision-making

  •   the study, analysis and modelling of specific decision problems in order to enable the design, development, deployment and monitoring of Decision Support Systems (DSS) in enterprises and organisations.

Its research activities fall into the following groups:

  •   Operations Research

  •  Supply Chain

  •  Information Systems

  •  Multicriteria Analysis

  •  Applications

The staff consists of internationally recognised scientists, post-docs, PhD candidates, postgraduate students and technical/administrative staff.

Facilities

The Decision Support Systems Laboratory (ERGASY.A.) is situated within the School of Production Engineering and Management at the Technical University of Crete. The facilities are designed to support a wide range of research and educational activities related to decision support systems, operations research, artificial intelligence and information systems.
